Below is just a little of the technology I regularly use.

Photography

Canon 10D My Second DSLR, pretty rugged, a bit on the heavy side some say. I also have the grip for this camera.

Canon 5D Going to this camera from the Canon 10D, was like going from a point and shoot digital to a DSLR. It was absolutely amazing. Usable iso-1600. Fast focusing, no searching. My only complaint is they wasted a button on a print function instead of having it remapable by user or for shutter lockup.

Canon SD-100 A great part Camera, unfortunately seems to have been dropped for the last time.

Sigma 24mm f1.8 for EOS A great fast wide angle lens. I use it frequently. It finds focus fast in very trying conditions.

Canon 100mm Macro for EOS A great lens and fast. It is really sharp. Unfortunately mine is not working right. It has a few loose parts inside and need to go back for repair. In manual focus mode though it seems ok.

Canon 70-300mm IS for EOS Another great canon lens. Has little gyroscope to stabilize the lens. seem to work really well. If your using it for long periods you can really go through the batteries.

Canon 50mm f1.8 A great fast lens I believe based on their 50mm f1.4 design.

Sigma 20-40mm f2.8 A great lens. Focuses a little slow the distortion is not too bad either.

Speedlight 580EX This flash with the Canon 5D is a great combination. It seems to meter dead on.

Speedlight 550EX Works ok with newer flashes but still is a little off with the Canon D-60, 10D, and the Canon 5D. I upgraded to the Speedlight 580EX for this reason. makes a good slave though.

Speedlight 420EX

A basic flash the first of the EX flashes i purchased. Works ok in slave mode.

Speedlight 420EZ
I use it mainly with a flash slave peanut, in manual power setting mode. It does not Work with the newer DSLRs.

ST-E2 transmitter

Works Great. it can be used to synch the newer flashes ex series.

Canon Macrolight flash ML-3 I still use this older ring light with my 100mm macro lens. I use a hot shoe - pc adapter to fire it. It seems to work ok. You do not have very much control over the flash, but for my purposes I usually want all the light it can give.

Electronics

Sony Net MD MZ-N707 Type-R Great little MD player. Pretty Rugged has been through a lot. I use it to record animal sounds, lectures, and movie sound tracks, when filming, to add an extra sound source. It does not allow you to take the audio off in a file, you have to record it off in real time. This is what killed the mini disk. Hopefully someday some one will have a way of pulling wavs, and mp3's off this device.

Toshiba laptop s255- I am working on a few tutorials for this laptop. Adding Ram, cleaning the processor heat sink, and adding a network mini-pci card.

Software

Adobe Creative Suite CS2 There have been a few advances in this suite. thing are coming together more. In Photoshop alone there have been some pretty significant advances for photographers. HDR or high Dynamic range on of the cooler features. Check out a few picture on Flickr with that tag. The images are amazing.

Adobe Audition1.5 / Cool Edit Pro This is great for regular sound editing, and noise removal. They have it down. You sample a area with the ambient sound you wish to remove, and build a profile with it. Then you can apply that noise reduction profile elsewhere in your work.

Adobe After Affects 6.5 Useful for composing and special effects. Works really well with Premiere.

Adobe Encore 1.5 Pretty decent DVD authoring software from Adobe. Can use Photoshop's layer for various menus. the first version Encore 1.0 was a real pain to use and did not work well at all.

Avid Pro 4.5 A Editor for the Win32 platform. Is available with dedicated hardware as well. I believe can handle quite a few real time transitions.

Cleaner 5 I Cleaner to convert videos to different formats from avi-dv to real and mpeg .

Final Cut Pro Apples video editing solution. works well with their integrated system.

Utilities

Pharmacy Dan A series of open source software links.

Slyck's forums Good information on Usenet and other types of file sharing.

Quickpar 0.9.1 Quickpar is a really great tool for generating parity (PAR2) files for backups.

ACDSEE 8.0 A great photo manger, It has really started to become indispensable for me. Allows editing of EXIFdata (kinda slow), and file comparisons from directory to directory to look for duplicates.

EBCD NT/2000/XP Password Recovery (Free)
Uses unix scripts to edit SAM's. Worth its weight in gold.

BHODemon 2.0 A tool (no longer maintained) to keep harmful Browser Helper Objects out of your system.

Xnews Free Compact newsreader. Handles Yenc and other formats. Pretty Good and simple. I wish it had a few more features, but it's free.

Exifer This program is indispensable. I use it to make bulk changes to my EXIF data after a shoot. It's postcardware. Send him a postcard if you like and use it. It work really well.
